Program Outline

Creative Hearts is a unique blend of creativity, well-being and play, designed to support children with a nurturing, fun and wholesome experience.

The pace of the program is slow and intentional with a focus on being engaged in the

creative flow state, in a calm and encouraging environment.

There will be a maximum of 10 young people in the group. This is suitable for all school aged children and teens.

Activities may be facilitator inspired, co-created with each child or a group initiative.

Children are encouraged to express their ideas and are supported to bring them to life.

This space is for children who:

  • love being independently engaged in sustained creative activities

  • enjoy being in calm environment

want to experiment with their own ideas

  • want to experiment with their own ideas

Well-Being

The kids studio is a relaxed and playful space where I intentionally embed well-being into the sessions,

often in my interactions with the children and sometimes explicitly through creative activities.

I am trained to use language to motivate and bring about positive change.

I keep the groups small so they I can give each child individual attention.

I can support your child in areas that you would like your child to be nurtured in, through creative practices.

They can also tell me what they would like to be supported with for their expression.

This is a beautiful opportunity for your child to be supported by another adult

on their team, who wants to see them shine.

Facilitation

My name is Sally and I’m an experienced educator and therapist who has taught in schools across Victoria and the UK. I have taught art for over 20 years. I have facilitated creative well-being workshops at MAMA and at numerous festivals across Australia.

As the founder of Glow Well-Being, I am a holistic therapist and I am trained in creative therapies as well as numerous other modalities.

The Creative Hearts Kids Studio program brings together many years of experience and training. It is more than a workshop, this is a creative well-being space designed to nurture children in their self expression.

It brings together all of the things I’m passionate about and enjoy doing. It’s the program I wished for when I was a child.

I designed this program to provide a space for creative children to be nurtured in their unique expression. It is an equal balance of creativity, well-being and fun. I co-create each day with the children and embed creative well-being into the activities in an informal and nurturing way.

I want each child to feel valued and cared for and every family to feel part of my community, to know that when you drop your child off in this space, they will feel welcomed in their unique expression.

Questions

Is it a class or therapy?

Creative Hearts fits under the title of a creative well-being workshop which means that the nature of the activities are creative and the way they are supportive of well-being. It’s delivered in a way that feels more like hanging out and being creative, with a mixture of instruction of technique, presentation of ideas and creative and practical assistance.

It differs from therapy in that the therapeutic aspects are mostly embedded in the activities and the way I interact and encourage, rather than a deep individual inquiry and discussion.

Are the activities all pre-determined?

No, I want children to feel free to choose and express themselves uniquely therefore I provide lots of options and alternatives as well as different resources for them to choose from.

Children are most welcome to create their own project based on their own ideas. Any activity ideas that I present are an invitation rather than an instruction. I encourage children to explore and play with the materials in ways they may not have before.

What types of activities can they choose from?

Art: There will be a range of visual arts resources available such as: clay, paint, watercolour, collage materials, fabric, beads, sculptural pieces etc. There will need some examples of works they can be inspired by as well as objects for still life arrangements.

Creative writing: I have writing prompts and examples for inspiration. I can also support children who want to do songwriting.

Reading: I have an array of books for children who want some time to relax and read. We will also use these for art inspiration and group activities.

What’s the timetable for the 3 hours?

When they arrive we play some games to support getting to know each other and feeling familiar in the space.

I present the resources and some prompts. Children choose what they would like to do. I support them with their creations.

We stop for a snack half way through and I tell them a story or we play a game.

They continue with their creations. They share their creation, write their bio and we photograph it for the online gallery.

We finish up with a game.
